The face of America is changing, ladies and gentlemen. America began as a nation built on strong Christian principles, but it is now transforming into more of an idea. There are millions of people that live in America, are legal American citizens, and yet, are far from American. I am not American because I live in the country whose name is the same. I am American because I believe in what our Christian founding fathers believed in - one nation under God, indivisible, and with liberty and justice for all - and if I can no longer witness that in this country called America, then I will still call myself an American for what the word once meant, and should mean now. There will come a day when I will be disgusted to associate myself with the country I inhabit, and I will still call myself an American because I know under what principles and morals my country was founded. If/when they ever modify the pledge of allegiance, I will not deviate from what it originally said, because my beliefs will be sturdier than rocks in the face of the evidence of the absence of what this nation's founding fathers held so dear that they covered our constitution with it. This is my vow, and what it means to be a true American.
